Artificial Intelligence

When it comes to artificial intelligence, the possibilities are endless. We have seen the impacts, especially this year with technologies gaining popularity like ChatGpt and AI music. Artificial intelligence can improve areas like research and statistics and make access easier for users. However, it also has its downsides. A common complaint I hear about AI is the impact it has on the art community in particular. Artists believe that AI-generated artwork will take away from real artists and leave them out of jobs. This can be true because why would a large company utilize funding for an artist when they can generate AI artwork in-house? Another example that leads me to dislike AI, comes from my peer's usage of it. I often hear from others about how they use ChatGpt to write essays, cover letters, blogs, etc. I believe this AI allows college students to take the easy way out or not put effort into their writing. My thought process behind feeling this way is if your making the effort to further your education and pay for it why would you enable yourself to use AI when you're not putting in the work?
After reading, "Pause Giant AI Experiments: An Open Letter", I agree with what the authors are asking. I liked that they mentioned AI is beginning to compete with humans because I think artificial intelligence should aid humans, not take over. I also appreciated that they said AI innovation and development does not need to stop because I think these technologies have proven to be beneficial in some spaces. We as a society just need to take a step back and evaluate how far we are going with artificial intelligence.
