The Digital Divide
The digital divide refers to the issue of those with access to the internet versus those who do not. This is a problem that exists throughout the world and was highlighted even more in America during the COVID-19 pandemic. Citizens should be concerned about this problem due to the internet being a key factor of progression in society. We are on a technological path that is advancing rapidly due to the internet and those who are left behind will not be technologically literate. The example in Coachella Valley was a great movement to aid those who do not have internet access. I believe if we continued to bring WIFI and give out laptops/tablets to those in need it would help close the divide. Another possible solution could be for big companies like AT&T to have charity programs that help bring and fund internet access to lower-income areas. Because we live in America and most have the luxury of internet access it puts into perspective how detrimental not having it could be. When students for example have a research project they can simply look up facts or data on their phone without even thinking twice about it.mHowever, what if there was no outlet to be able to have this convenience? People don't want to look at the digital divide as an issue until they are in someone else's shoes and do not have access to fundamental technology.
